Jennifer & Chris  |  August 15th |  Park City, Utah

From the bride, Mara:
My husband and I met in California and shared the most amazing first year together! It all started on our first date to the Gilroy Garlic festival – who eats garlic on a first date?! Well, we survived the garlic and went on to enjoy beach boardwalk concerts, wine tasting, Rolex races, and even a trip to the Galapagos Islands! However, we truly fell in love in wine country on a rustic ranch up in Northern California. Rolling hills, giant redwood trees and excellent company all provided the perfect pallet for our first kiss under a full moon on the deck of a little country lake. A year and a half later, Chris got down on one knee and proposed at that picture perfect spot where we had shared our first kiss!

Luxe Mountain Weddings - Utah

I am from the Chicagoland area, Chris is from Utah and we were both living in Northern California, so when it came to location we had ample choices! I have always been a mountain gal at heart though, so Utah quickly won out. We knew we needed a touch of Napa Style in our Utah mountain wedding. We found the ideal mountain setting with touches of the wine country at Empire Canyon Lodge at Deer Valley Resort {Luxe Collection partner}.

Wanting to tie in wine country, where we met and fell in love – Each table was labeled after our favorite wineries in California. Guests were greeted by wine corks containing their name and different wine labels. They then scouted out their table by matching their label to a hand-picked bottle of our favorite wine which they got to enjoy as they read the story of our best experiences at the winery and why we loved the wine so much! We took the theme further by decorating a riddling rack (it’s what wine makers used in the past to finish off making a great bottle of Champagne) with succulents and using it to collect all the cards by the gift table. We also utilized wine barrels at the ceremony site and later in the night – as our bars were made out of wine barrels and rustic wood.

Now what about the mountain theme? Our invitation was letterpress with a simple birch tree on it which was a design element we carried through entire wedding in little homemade touches. We had birch tree candle holders, flower girl baskets and best of all, we had our baker delicately carve the same design of our invitations on the side of the cake (which sat on a gorgeous cake stand, handmade from a tree stump by my Mother’s neighbor). Our favors were practical, flip-flops for the guests to change into and take home – but we were able to find ones with a tree design for the men – how perfect!

The icing on the cake that kept everyone dancing all night long was our mountain string band, Missed the Boat, who were nominated for a Grammy in 2009 and provided the perfect blend of music to suit everyone’s tastes. My husband, who loves to play the drums (and he’s actually good!), ended the night by taking over the drums and playing the night away with our band!

We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding! These are the memories you never forget.
