You Are My Sunshine

Beverly & Raymond  |  September 14th  |  Cashiers, North Carolina

From the bride:
My mom had been vacationing in Cashiers for 20+ years. My mom passed away suddenly from cancer three years ago and I wanted to feel close to her spirit.  There is nothing prettier than the vistas and backdrops of being in the mountains.  Just being outside in the mountains with God’s creation puts me in a good mood.

In lieu of bridesmaids (other than my two daughters), I elected to have my seven closest friends “randomly” stand up from their seats and recite the LOVE verses from I Cor 13.  It brought the audience into the ceremony and felt like my friends were speaking words of scripture directly to us.

Ray and I decided not only would I walk down, but we would leave as husband and wife, to “You Are My Sunshine” – a song my mom sang to my girls when they were babies and we discovered Ray’s mom had done the same with him.

I loved that Ray and I, with my girls, led the procession of our guests from the ceremony site along a streamer lined gravel path to the barn, where the reception was held.

My advice: ENJOY this time as an engaged couple and planning of the wedding together, as a couple. Then choose a well experienced and local wedding planning to coordinate your ideas.

Destination Vail, Colorado

Alyson & Jason  | May 11th  |  Vail, Colorado

From the bride:
We wanted to go somewhere out-of-town enough that people would come and really relax and be present, but close enough that it was affordable for people to travel to.  I grew up going to the Sonnenalp Hotel of Vail so it was the perfect fit.

FRances0101 FRances0102 FRances0103

We had a Catholic Ceremony at the Vail Interfaith Chapel.  My two 4 year-old nieces preceded me pulling a wooden wagon carrying my 1 year old niece (all in matching white flower girl dresses).  The wagon had a sign that read “Here Comes Auntie Al” on it.

FRances0104 FRances0105 FRances0106 FRances0107 FRances0108 FRances0109

The cake topper was specially made for my grandparents wedding ceremony shortly before my grandfather went overseas with the Navy to fight in World War II.

FRances0110

Rather than having a large wedding cake, we had eighteen small cakes, one for each table.

FRances0111

Centerpieces included 3 pottery barn gold jeweled bark candles set on square glass mirrors with bright pink rose petals and  diamond shaped jewels.  Chairs were covered with crème chair covers and had thick gold laced burlap tied around them.  The restaurant at the Sonnenalp, Ludwigs, is naturally decorated with a mix of mountain and German décor and didn’t need much to make it special.

FRances0112 FRances0113 My advice: Don’t stress, make it YOUR own – it’s your day, not your family’s or friends’. Soak it up!  It goes by in a flash.  No one remembers small flaws, but EVERYONE remembers a stressed out bride!! FRances0114

Photographer: Frances Photography. We were stunned at how much we loved our photos.  Frances and her staff were a joy to work with.

Ceremony Site: Vail Interfaith Chapel. A picturesque chapel and one of your only choices for a Catholic wedding in Vail (Catholic religion requires it be in a church). Unfortunately, a bit expensive.

Reception Site, Caterer, Cake, Lodging: The Sonnenalp Hotel of Vail. One of the most uniquely beautiful hotels in the gorgeous town of Vail.  Exceptionally accommodating and memorable.

Flowers: Sweet Pea Designs. Friendly, fairly priced, gorgeous flowers.

Band: Dressed in Black. Wonderfully talented, great event emcee who plays great music.

Wedding Gown Designer:  Pronovias Manuel Moto,  style: Edecan. I ordered directly from Pronovias HQ in Spain (no samples were made of the dress … purchased it before I could even try it on, YIKES!)

Honeymoon Location: Belize!!

Love as Pure as the Mountains

Kelsie & Johnny  | July 6th  |  Wise River, Montana

From the bride:
Johnny and I spend most of our time together in the mountains and we both knew that a mountain wedding would best suit us.  We also wanted our guests to be able to experience a little piece of our lives.

JacilynM01 JacilynM02

Every time we set out for a mountain adventure no matter what season it is, we are both amazed by the beauty of nature itself, so our inspiration for our style of wedding was to create an overall natural appearance. JacilynM03 JacilynM04

Our dog Rocco held the “ Here Comes the Bride” sign.  He had no practice before the wedding and walked down the aisle perfectly while our guests laughed.

JacilynM05 JacilynM06

Our ceremony was set right on the Big Hole River surrounded by mountains.  Johnny’s brother, Joe had spent weeks building a willow arch for us. During the ceremony there were a few moments of thunder, which was very special to us, because when Johnny proposed to me it was on the side of a mountain during a heavy rain and lightning storm.  We could not help but smile at each other. JacilynM07

Saying our vows was one of the most emotional experiences I have ever felt.  In that moment we both felt all the love, pain, and struggles we had went through to be able stand together in front of God, our family, and friends to be married. JacilynM08 JacilynM09 JacilynM10 JacilynM11 JacilynM12 JacilynM13 JacilynM14

We had white tablecloths with burlap runners and beautiful mountain bouquets in mason jars resting on top of fresh cut tree bark slabs with river rock sprinkled around everything. JacilynM15

We rented big white tents for the reception so our guests could enjoy the beautiful Montana scenery. Two live bands played into the dark as the sun set behind the mountains. JacilynM16I wanted to have sunset photos, so Jacilyn took us away to enjoy a moment I will never forget.  Being able to have that special moment with the one you love the most was magnificent!
