Rustic Comfort on the Ranch

Danielle & CJ | August 24th | Laramie, WY

From the bride: We handmade just about everything from the arbor for the ceremony to the dance floor and bars. We also decorated every inch of the space.

My favorite homemade item was the lemonade stand that my uncle made for the flavored water.

The backdrop of lush green trees and a beautiful arbor (built by CJ & his Dad) required minimal décor to make a perfect location for the ceremony.

Watching the ring bearer and flower girl hold hands as they walked down the aisle calmed my nerves prior to making that same walk with my father.

Right as we were exchanging vows it began to rain, we got nervous and cut the ceremony reading. When we were announced husband and wife the rain stopped and the rest of the night was full of perfect weather and beautiful skies.

The reception was just a minutes’ walk away from the ceremony. We had the guests walk through a small opening in the bushes over a bridge into the vast opening at the lawn to see the spread of two tents, a dance floor, appetizer tables, bars, a fire pit, kids table, and lawn games.

The doilies on all the tables were collected from family and friends.

For favors, we had homemade S’mores bags. A Rustic & Handmade Wyoming Ranch Wedding   A Rustic & Handmade Wyoming Ranch Wedding

We had two large homemade pie tables, one under each tent, for dessert. Myself and a ton of family and friends all came together to make our dessert table a reality. Every pie just looked and tasted divine!

Looking back, there was nothing I would have changed. Except that we never cut the cake… we got too busy having fun and dancing with everyone and it just never happened.

My advice: Schedule everything out. I was told multiple times that I was the most specific and organized bride. I gave everyone in the family and bridal party a detailed timeline for the week/weekend so they knew where to be and when. There was no cell phone service at the location so it all needed to be planned ahead of time. Once the day came I knew I could relax because every single person knew where they needed to be, what needed to be done, and when. Because of that – I was able to truly relax and enjoy every moment of the wedding week. Also, get a good photographer. You only get to experience the day itself once, but with good pictures you get to see so many things all over again. I am so thankful for my photographer. I wouldn’t have asked for anything else from her. One final piece of advice – check with all your vendors about methods of payment that they accept – we had a little shocker with the rental company not accepting the type of credit card we were going to pay with (when we were there picking things up!)

Modern Rocky Mountain Elegance

Sara & Ralph | August 31st | Beaver Creek, Colorado

From the event planner, Classic Creations:
Ralph and Sara love the outdoors, horses, and have a great modern style. We made sure we brought a bit of all of that to their elegant, rustic mountain wedding.

Sara and Ralph work for the Five Guys franchise, we played some of the theme off of that with our “One Guy + One Gal” theme and signature drink.

One of our fave details was the custom bar with a photo of the couples horses.  Sara said that it was one of the only times the horses ever ran together, luckily the photographer captured it during their engagement photo session.

We took the big ballroom and divided it up in to a lounge and bar section, a dinner and dancing section, and a wow this is the focal point of the room cake section!  We placed a sheer curtain at the back of the room with trees and tons of candles behind it to add to that outdoor romantic feeling, pulling back the curtain to reveal the absolutely stunning cake! I loved hearing the ooohs and ahhs as the guests walked in!

The cake design matched Sara’s gown.

Of course our “One Guy + One Gal” had to pay homage to Five Guys for bringing them together. A macaroon hamburger ice cream sandwich and churros fries in paper cones were served as a late night snack.

Destination Appalachian Mountains

Amy & Chris  |  August 17th  |  Valle Crucis, North Carolina

From the bride:  We wanted to get married in the mountains and specifically outdoors, so we had to have a destination wedding (because there are no mountains in Florida!). We wanted a rustic-chic type wedding because that matches our style and personalities. I wanted to make the wedding our own. I’m not the most conventional (my ring is a pink emerald, after all!) and I didn’t do anything just because I felt obligated or that it was tradition. Chris and I chose things that are reflections of us. That means we had some quirky aspects — bird cake toppers, a tree print for guests to sign instead of a traditional guest book and for keepsakes we had a Polaroid station and had guests leave us notes on their picture. We tried to make the night a true, personal reflection of ourselves.

I made most of the decorations myself. I’m pretty creative and have eclectic tastes, so I’m always trying to come up with things that “go” but don’t look totally put together. I let each of the bridesmaids find their own dresses for that reason. Destination Wedding Appalachian Mountains, Western North Carolina

I loved the wands we made for the flower girls instead of the traditional flowers in a basket. I  wanted to take a spin on the photobooth trend and so instead we got a Polaroid camera to create a “snap station.” We hung up a decorative bird cage with mini clothespins and asked people to leave us a note on their Polaroid and then pin it. I made a “LOVE” banner that was used as a backdrop on the barn at the “snap station.” It makes for a perfect decoration at our house with lots of keepsakes!  Destination Wedding Appalachian Mountains, Western North Carolina Destination Wedding Appalachian Mountains, Western North Carolina Destination Wedding Appalachian Mountains, Western North Carolina Destination Wedding Appalachian Mountains, Western North Carolina

My advice: Keep your wedding personal. Think about what you really want on your dream day — and not just because you feel obligated — and try to accomplish that.  Make the wedding a reflection of who you are and what you love, even when it comes down to the food choices! Don’t get so caught up with the hype and details that you lose focus that the day is really about a guy and a girl who are celebrating love, life and a new journey they are about to take together!
