A Rocky Mountain Wedding with a Teepee in Ridgway, Colorado
From the bride, Carey: Paul and I really wanted our wedding day to be about us and our love for each other. We’re both very introverted and planning a wedding ourselves was very stressful at times. We wanted to share our big day with family and friends because they mean so much to us, but we had to keep reminding ourselves throughout the whole process that it wasn’t about them and it wasn’t about making anyone else happy but us.
WHY OURAY, COLORADO
Ouray was a special spot for both of us separately before we even started dating – I liked the hot springs and Paul loves to ice climb. I said Ouray was one of my favorite spots in my Match.com profile and he totally picked up on that. It was one of our bonding moments. Since being together we have traveled to Ouray regularly and have decided we really want to move there someday. We are currently in the process of trying to figure out how to make that work, sooner rather than later. We almost instantly agreed that it’s where we should get married. It’s such a gorgeous little mountain town and we really wanted to share it with our family and friends.
THE FIRST LOOK
The first look was so special and important for us. It allowed us to take a breath, recenter and refocus on each other, and have a really profound and beautiful moment just the two of us, before heading into the blissful revelry of the wedding.
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT
Driving away together as man and wife – best 25 minutes on the road ever!
MY ADVICE
Have fun and make it about YOU and nobody else. Don’t stress the small stuff, but do as much as you can upfront so you don’t have to run around like crazy people on the days leading up to the wedding.

An Autumn Wedding in West Virginia
From the bride, Danielle: In the beginning planning stages, I fell in love with so many different styles. A few times during the early (and middle) stages of planning, I committed to styles I thought I wanted, mainly due to others influences. None of these styles “felt” right though and around the halfway mark, I finally decided to go back to the drawing board and go with my gut and chose a color palette of goldenrod, ecru and grey.
I wanted to do something different with my flowers. Silk flowers were an obvious no and real flowers are gone in a few days and I wanted my flowers to last longer. I thought the Sola flowers were simply perfect and the Craspedia gave my wedding the modern edge I was looking for. What’s really cool is that I still have my bouquet and Josh’s boutonniere today. They’re in the same condition as the day we wed.
Our dog, Bingo (a Chihuahua-Chinese Crested mix) was such a handsome boy in his bowtie and, while slightly neurotic during the ceremony, he was a shining star during the family photos!
Our ceremony took place outside on the upper deck at Adventures on the Gorge. We had an amazing view of the New River from the mountaintop.
I searched for hours to find quotes that would define our relationship and the love we have for one another. I wanted depth and real meaning. Not just a few fluffy words in a frame.
Looking back, truth be told, I would’ve eloped; on a remote island; Fiji perhaps.

A Simple, Relaxed & Organic Wedding at Deer Valley Resort
From the bride, Ingrid: We always dreamed of a wedding in the outdoors in a majestic setting. We wanted the overall look to be simple, modern, organic, elegant and relaxed. We wanted our wedding colors to match the surroundings, the aspens leaves were the inspiration for the green, the mountain lodge for the brown and my dress for the ivory.
Deer Valley means a lot to us since my husband worked there as a ski instructor and I learned how to ski on the slopes of Deer Valley. We chose the Silver Lake Lodge the first day we went looking for venues. We fell in love with the lodge and the surroundings!
We did photos before the ceremony and it was one of the best decisions we made since we didn’t miss a minute of the reception and we got one of my favorite pictures at the top of the mountain in the chairlift.
My favorite moment of the day was walking down the aisle after we got married, it was magical!
We danced a choreographed Tango as our first dance.
My advice: Invest in a good dance floor! Don’t buy expensive shoes, they ‘ll get ruined. Plan the photos you want to take before hand. Stick to the timelines and try to get a good rest the night before.

Bohemian Wedding Inspiration in the Land of Enchantment
Set amongst the trees in a wildflower field at the foot of the mountains, Maura Jane Photography and Events by Emily Kay came together to create a breathtaking bohemian inspired photo shoot. Their inspiration came from the earthiness of the location and the desire to showcase bright colors.
Vibrant greens, yellows and shades of cranberry created the perfect color palette for this lighthearted romance.
Passion Floral Design Studio matched the decor perfectly bringing in unique blooms and sunflowers that complimented the wildflowers that scattered the forest floor.
Just through the edge of the woods was a large field on a cliff overlooking the New Mexico sky. New Mexico, also known as the Land of Enchantment, created a picturesque backdrop with rain falling off in the distance.

A Modern Mountain Wedding in Vail, Colorado
From the bride, Lindsay: Tim and I grew up skiing and snowboarding, hiking and camping in the mountains. We have always loved the mountains and knew we had to get married surrounded by the place that truly felt like home. The rustic, yet elegant feel that you get when you are in the Colorado Mountains is like nothing anyone can explain.
We really wanted our wedding to express our love for the mountains as well as our personalities.
The sun was shining and there was not even a cloud in the sky when I walked down the aisle to “Here comes the Sun” by the Beatles. It was truly the most magical day to get married.
We truly felt like we were on top of the world!
For the décor, we wanted the mountain modern feel expressed with touches of the clean white Aspens and bright yellow and grey patterns. We also thought that the mint green of the succulents brought out the little extra touch of modern that we loved!
All of our signs were made from real aspen trees. We used a wood burner to personalize each detail including the bride and groom drinks, guest book, favors, and our “Mr. and Mrs.” Chair signs.
The Jewish Horah was truly memorable and being tossed in chairs by our family and friends is something we both will never forget!
We made our favors for each of our guests. We had a Lindsay spice and a Tim spice. Each one was personalized with a note with cooking ideas. They turned out wonderful and had a spice of love to them!
One of my most memorable moments was sitting with our wedding party next to the fire pit realizing how lucky we are to be surrounded by the most amazing family and friends on a perfect day!
My advice: Do not be afraid to make your dream wedding come true and always remember the reason why you are getting married.

Styled Shoot: Fall Romance
Here’s a little secret, we can’t resist sharing anything that involves horses and weddings, which is why we are so in love with everything about this very soft and romantic styled shoot from A&L Photographers. We love the old country swing wrapped with fall colored leaves and flowers and the lace vintage wedding dress. The location could not have been more perfect, a natural backdrop at Heaven’s Ranch in Chino Hills, California. Love the handmade headpiece and breathtaking bouquet of soft flowers in shades of yellow, orange and peach created by Floral Fields and the gorgeous hair and makeup by Rachel from Radiant Artistry. A stunning shoot from a talented team of artists!
