A Floral-Filled Farm Wedding in Asheville

Lacey & Torsten  |  July 14th

From the bride… Torsten and I chose to wed at a farm venue nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains outside of Asheville, NC. We selected this venue as a semi-destination wedding so that our friends and family from all over would have a fun place to travel to and experience together.

THE DRESS

I chose a beautifully detailed dress with floral-inspired lace appliques and a flowing tulle skirt. It was both romantic and whimsical to fit in with my overall vision.

THE VENUE

From the moment we stepped on the property we fell in love with The Farm. The mountains, horses, beautiful rows of flowers, combined with a rustic-elegant feel made this the perfect venue for us. We loved that the farm specialized in farm-to-table cuisine using the freshest ingredients from their gardens and local farmers. Our beverages were from a curated list of local craft beers and ciders from Asheville otherwise known as “beer city.”

THE DECOR

We kept our decor fairly simple and incorporated a lot of florals into our overall design. One of my favorite pieces of the day was the custom Mountain Laurel archway created by Flourish Flower Farm to frame the aisle of our ceremony. The archway was draped with the most beautiful flowers- it took my breath away! Many of our guests enjoyed taking photos under the archway.

THE CEREMONY

Like most little girls, I have always dreamed of the day my Dad would walk me down the aisle. My dad was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) in 2015. Prior to the wedding, we had to have the hard discussion of what we would do if my Dad was unable to walk me. I am blessed to say that my Dad walked me down the aisle to hand me off to my wonderful husband. This was by far the most special moment of my wedding day that I will never stop reliving.

THE VOWS

We centered our wedding ceremony around our Christian faith and included a rustic barn wood cross in the backdrop. My first cousin once removed served as our wedding officiant, just as she did for my Mom and Dad’s wedding! It was so special to have her be a part of our wedding day.

HANDMADE TOUCH

We made DIY lavender filled bags for guests to shower on us as we made our way down the aisle after the ceremony.  The meaning of lavender is love and devotion, and when given as a gift, represents luck and the promise of a new adventure. I can think of no other greater adventure than marriage!

THE RECEPTION

One of my favorite things about our wedding was that there was something for every personality to enjoy. Our guests played corn-hole, giant Jenga, enjoyed the farm animals, sat outside under the stars, and danced the night away with the band.

ADVICE

Allow yourself to go with the flow and be okay with the fact that things won’t go exactly as planned. Most of all, take a deep breath, and enjoy your magical day surrounded by your closest family and friends!

Boho Bliss on a Mountaintop in North Carolina

Ashley & David | October 9th

From the photographer: It was the perfect evening at Max Patch, we (almost) had the entire area to ourselves which always makes the ceremonies super special. The privacy allows for the couple to truly be themselves, which is always a blast to witness. Ashley had an AMAZING dress from BHLDN. It was all things fabulous and boho, and everything an eloping bride could ask for. We highly recommend this company for elopement dresses. As always, Flourish Flower Farms came through with a stunning lush flower crown and bouquet, as bright as her spirit. And that’s saying something!

After we got to talking I was interested in hearing what drew them to our little corner of paradise.

From the bride: “We wanted somewhere new to us that we could both explore with fresh eyes together. We love the idea of having ‘our city’ to visit. All we really knew was we wanted our day to be outdoors and, on a mountaintop,… so here we are! We are looking forward to it just being the two of us (the privacy and sacredness of having it just be about us, without distractions and complications- stripped down, simple, free & easy sort of like our love and us (together and separate), the excitement of building a family (like, right away!), the secrecy and surprise to friends and family… so much to be thankful and excited for.”

A Sophisticated Bluegrass & Craft Beer Mountain Wedding in Asheville

Jennifer & Thomas | April 15th

From the bride: We chose the Asheville, NC area because we just love it. We love camping, the Blue Ridge Mountains, the music, and the groom, in particular, loves all of the craft beer options in Asheville.  Our vision for the day was a little boho, a little bluegrass, and a little sophistication. I think we were our own inspiration behind the style. We wanted our wedding to represent us and what we enjoy.

THE DRESSES

We are both pretty low maintenance when it comes to attire. I bought a dress right off the rack and had a seamstress add the lace cap sleeves to customize it.  The bridesmaid dresses were a little boho and whimsical and as my sister in law said: “these are SO Jen.”

THE FLOWERS

The flowers were absolutely beautiful! Flora in Asheville designed the bouquets and I couldn’t have been happier.

THE GROOM

Thomas wore a navy suit he already owned. He also picked out the bowties for himself and his groomsmen which I did not see until I was walking down the aisle. I must say he did a great job.

Thomas and I took bets on who would cry during the ceremony – him or I. We were both surprised when he was the one that cried! Our photographer, Meghan, caught a great photo of him wiping his tears of joy while my dad walked me to the end of the aisle. That was such a precious moment, and I’m so grateful Meghan caught it!

THE CEREMONY

The ceremony décor was simple, romantic, and magical. We let nature really be the star.

MEMORABLE MOMENT

In addition to marrying the love of my life, my favorite funny part of the ceremony was when I arrived at the end of the aisle with my dad; I slipped a little on my last step. I caught eyes with my now brother-in-law (one of the groom’s brothers), and we just laughed for a second. It really calmed my nerves and gave me a chuckle. Fortunately, we didn’t have any other mishaps after that!

Thomas is a homebrewer and brewed several different beers for a tasting during the “cocktail” hour. We also served family style charcuterie boards alongside the tasting. We both love trying new beers and a great charcuterie board!

FAVE DETAIL

We used springs of rosemary, which is one of my favorite herbs for the place settings. It was such a beautiful touch for a cozy, sit-down dinner.

THE DECOR

Our reception décor included lots of greenery, vintage china plates with mismatched patterns, and ivory lace table clothes.

FAVE MOMENT

If I had to pick one particularly memorable moment, it would be when Thomas and I sat down for dinner at the reception. We were surrounded by all our friends and family to celebrate our love, and we just looked around and at each other like “wow.” It was so nice to have a calm moment to talk to each other, take it all in, and just relish in the love and celebration in the room.

THE DANCING

Our first dance to a Tedeschi Trucks Band song was so fun. And, I had a blast shagging to ‘Love Don’t Come No Stronger’ with my dad for our father-daughter dance.

ADVICE

Don’t get bogged down in the details. Remember why you’re getting married – not to have a wedding, but to marry your best friend. And have fun!

The Farm | Wedding Venue, Asheville, North Carolina

THE WEDDING TEAM

Venue: The Farm. We chose to rent out all of the cabins on the property for our family. It was SO nice to all be together near the venue. It made the whole weekend so relaxed and enjoyable to not be rushing from one location to another. We held the rehearsal dinner and the bridal brunch all on the property as well. It was so worth it! We enjoy cooking and feeding our friends and family, so we made sure not to skimp on food either. We did a sit-down dinner that was family style and it was a big hit. It was also nice for us to be able to sit down, eat, and take it all in! Before and after dinner was a whirlwind!

Band: Oak Grove String Band is a bluegrass band we had heard several times at a festival when we were dating. We loved them so much! They did a lot of familiar covers in their bluegrass style.

A Mountaintop Elopement in the Wildflowers

From the bride: Three and a half years ago I met the love of my life, Josh, in a place I wouldn’t have expected – the gym! I was looking to amp up my exercise routine, so I joined a local fitness team that he happened to be a member of. At first, I felt a little intimidated and knew I could use some guidance. Josh was so welcoming and had this genuine kindness about him that seemed so rare in the fitness world, so of course, I asked him for help! It didn’t hurt that he happened to be really, really handsome! From the get-go, there was a crazy connection between us. It felt like we had known each other for so long like we had always been the best of friends. He was so easy to talk to, laugh about inappropriate things with and complain about working out too! We spent almost every day together just talking and getting to know each another on a really deep level. It didn’t take long for us to fall in love!

Josh and I knew we wanted our wedding to be low key, simple and romantic so eloping was perfect. With North Carolina being our first choice, Meghan Rolfe Photography suggested Max Patch and it was absolutely beautiful! We couldn’t have picked a better spot to share our vows and express our love for each other.

A Boho Mountaintop Elopement in Asheville

Hunter & Wheatley are Asheville locals that decided to elope in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Wheatley wanted a boho vibe with pretty florals and a handmade dress. The couple had a first look before heading up the mountain to the ceremony location to read their vows from hand painted vow books. After the short ceremony, they enjoyed cake and a champagne toast on a mountaintop watching the sun set on the Blue Ridge Mountains.

A Perfect Blue Ridge Mountain Wedding

Meredith & Kirby  |  October 14, 2017

From the bride: Kirby and I met in Boone, NC while we attended Appalachian State University. He worked at the Blue Ridge Mountain Club while in college and I fell in love with the venue when we attended another friend’s wedding at the Club. When it came time to plan our wedding, we knew the Blue Ridge Mountain Club would be the perfect location for us.

An Autumn Military Wedding in North Carolina

From the bride, Sarah: Jared and I are high school sweethearts and were together for 12 years before we got married, due to military life, we wanted to wait until he was done with training. We decided on a mountain wedding in North Carolina in the fall as all the leaves were changing.

I lost my mom in high school and everyone says I’m her spitting image so I knew it would be emotional when my dad saw me for the first time.

We held the ceremony outside in an open field with the Appalachian Mountains in the background.

Looking back, I really hated that we didn’t have enough time. Everyone tells you that the day goes by in the blink of and eye and it did!
