A Scottish Party in the Mountains – Steamboat Springs, Colorado

From the bride, Gretchen: We wanted a Colorado casual, welcoming and fun wedding day!  Our inspiration came from the groom’s Scottish roots and the wedding locations.

The weather was somehow perfectly glorious, like that moment with the sun rays in the beginning of the Lion King movie.

Everything about the day was personal. We deconstructed the traditional ceremony entirely and made our own. It felt very personal without being mushy. We wrote our vows together and said the same ones. I liked that because it felt traditional but personalized to us.

My favorite DIY detail from the wedding were the gold antler table settings and chandelier. The groom’s parents scored a huge lot of antlers in auction in Missouri and I spent many happy afternoons lovingly spray painting them gold. Everyone was skeptical but they looked AMAZING. We split them among the family after the wedding and they make great decorations at Christmas.

Looking back, we’ve never experienced anything like our wedding day—it is a cliché because it’s true. It was a day long adrenaline rush fueled by the biggest out pouring of love we’ve ever experienced. It rocked.

My advice: Hire a day-of wedding planner and have a clear budget.

A Spring Destination Wedding in Steamboat Springs, Colorado

From the bride, Jen:
Pascal & I met and fell in love in Steamboat so we could not think of a better place to get married.
We both love the winter and went back and forth about getting married in the snow. We thought a winter wedding might be too risky for our out of town guests so we chose June 17th! To our pleasant surprise, there was a foot of snow on top of Mt. Werner on our wedding day. We got the best of both worlds, a beautiful spring ceremony with a touch of winter at our reception!

I loved our flowers! The vibrant colors made the day so bright and colorful. Luxe Mountain Weddings Luxe Mountain Weddings Luxe Mountain WeddingsThe day of our wedding it was raining on and off all morning. At about 4:30pm when we were supposed to get on the gondola to head up the ski mountain, the wind was too wild to go up.  As we were the first wedding of the season, they had to get the buses out and do a trial bus ride up the mountain. With ample snow, it was touch and go if the buses could even make it up the mountain! To our relief, we were able to be bussed up to the reception site.  It was a wild ride and added to the little things that made our day so memorable and perfect!

For our guest favors, my mom and I made 100 mini jars of blackberry jam.

A Steamboat Springs Wedding in the Snow

From the bride, Angela… We decided the best place for us to get married is one where we are the happiest.  That is, on holiday, in the snow, with our wonderful friends. We traveled from Australia to Steamboat Springs, Colorado to get married.  We decided to keep our wedding a surprise from our family and friends.

The tutu was my real inspiration with a tiny bit of romantic fantasy.

THE CEREMONY

We were married standing in the beautiful snow in sub zero temperatures.  The sun was shining and it was snowing! There were tears, there was an abundance of joy and it was magical.

We wanted everyone to enjoy a sleigh ride together – it was fun and will never be forgotten, but we couldn’t feel our feet or our faces, it was sooo cold.

LOOKING BACK

Snow makes everything look beautiful. Our mountain destination wedding was snowy, picturesque and romantic. I will forever be reminded of it when I return to Steamboat, and whenever I go skiing.

ADVICE

Take the time to talk about your dreams and expectations for your wedding day, and for your future.  Try to do what you want for your big day, not what everyone else wants.

Love Under a Full Moon in Steamboat Springs

From the groom, Tim:
Our wedding day was  FUN!! No stress, seriously!  Earlier in the day, the dudes went for a Mountain bike ride followed by cliff jumping at King Soloman Falls…epic Colorado day!  The ceremony setting was perfect. The groomsmen and I biked down the aisle. During the ceremony, we signed our marriage license with Stevie Wonders ‘signed, sealed, delivered’ playing in the background. From the bride:
I know it sounds cliché, but it was honestly the best day of my life. It was truly magical! I spent the entire day getting ready with my brides maids at Columbine cabins.  Laid-back  and funky  is how I would describe my husband and I and the theme we were going for.

The ceremony took place on a picturesque ranch near Steamboat Lake with 360 degree views of the some of the most amazing scenery in Colorado.  Our guests sat on hay bales covered with blankets.I wrote the entire ceremony and we both wrote our vows. It was incredibly personal and meaningful for the both of us.After we said “I do” we biked into the sunset on our tandem cruiser.

The reception took place in a tent. It was beautiful with hanging lights, a dance floor and was just very natural and beautiful.  We got engaged at the Jersey shore so we had salt water toffee sent to us from a store down the shore that we put on the dinner tables. We also had waffles and ice cream for dessert, which is a jersey shore favorite of mine. We purposely got married on a full moon because we met on a full moon, got engaged on a full moon and therefore thought it would be really romantic. We danced till 2:00 am and ended the night back at our cabins with a camp fire! It was the perfect day!RECOMMENDED Vendors
