Rugged Boho Inspo in the Californian High Desert

This styled shoot was inspired by the location, BLM land in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. Although the location was sparse in vegetation, the sweeping snow-capped mountains and larger than life boulders provided plenty of inspiration. Vintage elements gave the setting a special wanderlust flair while the cowhide rug and skull added a little southwest style without being over the top. The triangle arch was a powerful design element. The flowers reflected the vegetation and incorporated plants you would actually find in the high desert.

A Floral-Filled Farm Wedding in Asheville

Lacey & Torsten  |  July 14th

From the bride… Torsten and I chose to wed at a farm venue nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains outside of Asheville, NC. We selected this venue as a semi-destination wedding so that our friends and family from all over would have a fun place to travel to and experience together.

THE DRESS

I chose a beautifully detailed dress with floral-inspired lace appliques and a flowing tulle skirt. It was both romantic and whimsical to fit in with my overall vision.

THE VENUE

From the moment we stepped on the property we fell in love with The Farm. The mountains, horses, beautiful rows of flowers, combined with a rustic-elegant feel made this the perfect venue for us. We loved that the farm specialized in farm-to-table cuisine using the freshest ingredients from their gardens and local farmers. Our beverages were from a curated list of local craft beers and ciders from Asheville otherwise known as “beer city.”

THE DECOR

We kept our decor fairly simple and incorporated a lot of florals into our overall design. One of my favorite pieces of the day was the custom Mountain Laurel archway created by Flourish Flower Farm to frame the aisle of our ceremony. The archway was draped with the most beautiful flowers- it took my breath away! Many of our guests enjoyed taking photos under the archway.

THE CEREMONY

Like most little girls, I have always dreamed of the day my Dad would walk me down the aisle. My dad was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) in 2015. Prior to the wedding, we had to have the hard discussion of what we would do if my Dad was unable to walk me. I am blessed to say that my Dad walked me down the aisle to hand me off to my wonderful husband. This was by far the most special moment of my wedding day that I will never stop reliving.

THE VOWS

We centered our wedding ceremony around our Christian faith and included a rustic barn wood cross in the backdrop. My first cousin once removed served as our wedding officiant, just as she did for my Mom and Dad’s wedding! It was so special to have her be a part of our wedding day.

HANDMADE TOUCH

We made DIY lavender filled bags for guests to shower on us as we made our way down the aisle after the ceremony.  The meaning of lavender is love and devotion, and when given as a gift, represents luck and the promise of a new adventure. I can think of no other greater adventure than marriage!

THE RECEPTION

One of my favorite things about our wedding was that there was something for every personality to enjoy. Our guests played corn-hole, giant Jenga, enjoyed the farm animals, sat outside under the stars, and danced the night away with the band.

ADVICE

Allow yourself to go with the flow and be okay with the fact that things won’t go exactly as planned. Most of all, take a deep breath, and enjoy your magical day surrounded by your closest family and friends!

A Boho Garden Wedding in Colorado

Maddie & Danny could not have been any more relaxed on their wedding day. They both soaked in every second and every moment of every hour and truly enjoyed themselves.  Lone Hawk Farm was the perfect, relaxed setting for them to say their vows to one another.  After Maddie & Danny walked the aisle, exchanged vows and were announced husband and wife their guests were lead to cocktail hour full of games and treats.  After heartfelt toasts, they all dined al fresco and then danced the night away.

A Boho Mountaintop Elopement in Asheville

Hunter & Wheatley are Asheville locals that decided to elope in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Wheatley wanted a boho vibe with pretty florals and a handmade dress. The couple had a first look before heading up the mountain to the ceremony location to read their vows from hand painted vow books. After the short ceremony, they enjoyed cake and a champagne toast on a mountaintop watching the sun set on the Blue Ridge Mountains.

A Stunning Autumn Mountain Wedding in Durango

Jenne Anne & Robert  /  October 1st  /  Durango, Colorado

From the bride:  It was important to us that the wedding reflected our adventurous laid back spirits. We tried to implement our favorite things and places in Durango as well as: the outdoors, our pups, local beer, and good food.  The day before the wedding we incorporated the hot springs, mountain biking, a SKA brew tour, and dinner at Steamworks. On Sunday, we had everyone join us for breakfast and bacon bloody mary’s. After, we rode crusier bikes along the river trail.

Our ceremony was located in one of our favorite meadows in the mountains. The fall colors were at their peak and most of the leaves fell from the aspens the next day. My husband crafted our incredible arbor and built it earlier that afternoon. We had a short intimate ceremony with our closest friends and family. Our pups (kids) were right beside us wearing floral collars so they didn’t feel left out. We chose to have our unity ceremony with two copper custom engraved mugs and a matte grey growler filled with our favorite craft beer.

Our reception was short and sweet. We ate and did our first dance, which was pretty magical, then we headed downtown. We were out on the town the whole evening in our wedding attire. I laughed and giggled the entire night!

A Bohemian Mountain Wedding in Boulder

From the bride, Maura: Our wedding day flowed with cosmic energy: intense lightning, growls of thunder beings, and delicious sunny blue skies kissing peoples faces as we played outside and sang kirtan. We were blessed with fabulous song and divine sufi circle dancing, by the words of Hafiz, and by the voices of so many elders in our Naropa and Hakomi communities. David and Lila Tressmer facilitated our wedding as a recreation of A Midsummer Night’s dream and our friends sang and danced in the full regalia of the fairies and elven ones of the forest. We received so many blessings and felt truly at one with the great oneness as all 111 of us chanted Sita Ram while the great galvanic forces raged outside the great temple. As soon as our guests pronounced us “husband and wife, consorts for life” and we shared our delectable kiss, the clouds parted to reveal the most beautiful blue sky day. After a round of intimacy games, sacred sufi circle dancing, and being lifted over heads in our hand painted sparkle peacock chairs we celebrated with an epic dance party at Shine with DJs Cualli and Jesse Chesnutt and transporting visuals by Andrew Brislin and a show of visual magic by Eric Batliner. The most fantastic day of my life thus far. So much LOVE! And this is just the first of many, many epic creations that we two beloveds shall create together!

A Bohemian Mountain Wedding in Boulder

From the photographer, James Moro Photography:
Andrew and Maura’s Boulder wedding was, in one word, Magical. I have never seen such an enchanted couple–so absolutely taken by each other–that they light up the hearts of everyone around them. Their energy is undeniable; there’s something cosmic about these two that has to be seen to be believed. I don’t understand it, but the weather was perfectly timed to the day’s events: boisterous thunder and lighting while indoors, giving way to rich, blue skies while outdoors. I think everyone at their ceremony was aware that as the energy of the crowd grew to it’s climax, so too did the sun grow to outshine the thunderous skies–only being outshone by Maura’s glowing smile as she couldn’t help but be overwhelmed by the emotion of it all. A Bohemian Wedding in Boulder, Colorado

From the bride, Aryn: We both attended Colorado State University, and although we moved for our careers following college, Colorado still felt like home. My sister lives in Boulder, and we realized we could have the intimate ceremony at her house, walk to amazing dining at Colterra, and return to have the reception without time limits typically set by venues. We decided to have the wedding in her backyard, not to save on cost, but to be somewhere we truly felt comfortable to enjoy the day and being together.

MichelleKoechle0101

MichelleKoechle0102 MichelleKoechle0103

Everything was personalized and handmade! We draped burlap and chiffon fabric along the outside of the house, hung countless bulb lights, hung glass vases filled with wildflowers and candles, had pictures printed of us, incorporated antique trunks, mismatched antique chairs, vintage boxes and so many unique elements. Both of our names start with A, so we had A’s around the venue and tables. MichelleKoechle0104 MichelleKoechle0105

We loved vintage pieces mixed with the sort of effortless that bohemian and rustic offers. MichelleKoechle0106 MichelleKoechle0107 MichelleKoechle0108 MichelleKoechle0109

My husband and I spent hours writing our own ceremony that would mix our personalities and views on marriage. Writing it ourselves took a lot of work, but it was so personal and filled with love. Our brother in law married us, and brought such comfort to the ceremony since we know him so well. We wrote our own vows, and there was plenty of emotion all around!

MichelleKoechle0110 MichelleKoechle0111

Rain was threatening all day, but as we kissed for the first time, a loud rumble of thunder hit. Our guests still talk about it today and what perfect and crazy timing it was.

MichelleKoechle0112 MichelleKoechle0113 MichelleKoechle0114 MichelleKoechle0115

My husband and I have been together for 9 years before we got married, and have so many life events that have occurred. We handed out cards during cocktail hour for people to write their favorite memories, stories or ideas of our future. As we walked to dinner, we had “stations” set up with dates on a chalkboard that were meaningful for Aaron and I. At each stop, our friends and family shared what was on their card, and we were all able to talk and laugh as we took a trip down memory lane and our story came full circle at the last stop, our wedding day.

MichelleKoechle0116 MichelleKoechle0117 MichelleKoechle0118 MichelleKoechle0119 MichelleKoechle0120 MichelleKoechle0121 MichelleKoechle0122 MichelleKoechle0123 MichelleKoechle0124 MichelleKoechle0125 MichelleKoechle0126 MichelleKoechle0127 MichelleKoechle0128 MichelleKoechle0129 MichelleKoechle0130

My advice: Relax and just be true to yourselves as couple. There is no “right” way to get married. It is such an emotional day, and should be focused on two people committing their lives together, not on what centerpiece you have. Stay focused on the real purpose, and your guests will feel that love and energy to create an unforgettable day.
