A Rocky Mountain Wedding Filled with Handmade Details

From the bride, Meghan: We knew we wanted to be married in the mountains of Colorado.  When we were trying to decide where in the mountains to get married, we thought about how much we loved the dinner we had the previous winter at Beano’s Cabin. We wanted to recreate one of our best dining experiences for our family and friends so, we chose Beano’s as our wedding venue. It was perfect!

Wildflowers were the only thing of color that I really wanted people to remember. I didn’t want people to leave and say, “Oh, that was a nice pink wedding.”  I made a point to use natural materials and mostly neutral colors for everything, but the flowers.

Beaver Creek Wedding Filled with Handmade DetailsI handmade hangers for my bridesmaids so they would be surprised to see their dresses.  A special day, a special dress, a special hanger!

My bridesmaids ended up wearing blush, lavender, and porcelain blue. I let them choose their own dresses and those were the colors they desired. After the girls chose their dress colors, I decided to accent the groomsmen with coordinating colors.

Beaver Creek Wedding Filled with Handmade DetailsI gifted my nice with her first pearl necklace. She wore this during the ceremony and will get lots of use out of it dressing up in the future. I also had a handkerchief made for her with a sentimental message to mark the memory of her being my flower girl.

I made individual tissues in a bag stamped “Happy Tears” to place used tissues in during the ceremony. I also created a crossword puzzle with details of our relationship. I printed this on the back of the ceremony program for people to have something to do before the ceremony started.

I think my favorite memory was when I reached the aisle with my dad and I looked at James for the first time. When I saw him I just collapsed in a wave of emotion. What a powerful thing to be standing at the end of an aisle, looking at the man who has asked you to be his wife.

I made the table numbers out of wine bottles. I used photos from our many travels to customize the bottles and provided a story detailing why that location is important to us.

I had conversation cards on every table. This was special to us because we used these conversation cards on our second date and we also answer one card every morning over breakfast. We also thought it would help get the conversation going among the dinner tables.

At the end of the night, everyone took an assortment of blank greeting cards home with them. My mother made the 300 cards using her own artwork.

Classic Mountain Rustic in Beaver Creek

Kelly & Erik | May 26th | Beaver Creek, Colorado

From the bride, Kelly:
Erik and I both grew up in Colorado and have always loved the mountains and skiing together. Beaver Creek was the perfect location because it gave us the mountain wedding we were looking for, but was also easy for our guests to travel too. Plus Beaver Creek is such a great setting because not only is it one of the best spots in Colorado but everything is within walking distance or shuttle service so none of our guests had to drive and there were so many activities for them to enjoy. We had guests go golfing, hiking, fishing and to the BBQ Festival that weekend.

Brinton StudiosMy wedding dress (Monique Lhuillier) was a blush pink color so it inspired the colors for the flowers, invitations and other details.

Brinton StudiosMy dad passed away several years ago so I had a locket with a picture of him tied to the bouquet. I also wrapped the bouquet in a piece of my mom’s dress, that was my something old.

Brinton StudiosI took our save the date which was a custom illustration of Beano’s with our names and wedding date on it and made it into a poster which everyone signed as our “guest book”. I love that because now I can frame it and hang in our home and always remember our special day and all the fun notes from our friends and family.

In planning a wedding there are so many things that you can fixate on and you have to keep in mind the bigger picture and what the wedding is about.   Alos, on your wedding day, take a moment with your new husband and stop to take in everything, because it goes by way to fast.

Inspired by Colorado

Kirsten  & Jonathan |   June 26th  |  Beaver Creek, Colorado

From the Photographer, Amanda McKinnon
Jon and Kirsten are a New York City power couple. Both are Harvard MBA graduates, they met at an alumni function at Chelsea Pier. Love and wedding plans soon followed. Both wanted a destination that would inspire their guests and Jon and Kirsten’s love of the outdoors, good food, wine and the West. The choice of Beaver Creek fit all of their requirements. Guests  would travel from as far away as Brazil, so it was important that the 4 days of wedding festivities have a relaxed vacation like feel for all involved. The ceremony was held in a mountain meadow at the base of Larkspur Bowl while the reception took place in adjacent Beano’s Cabin with an amazing feast of culinary delights. For the couple and guests alike, Jon and Kirsten’s weekend was a once in a lifetime experience.
