A Winter Elopement in the Mountains

From the bride, Margaret: We wanted something different than a beach wedding, or just a typical outdoor wedding. We both love the mountains and we also wanted to see snow. Since we are from Louisiana, we don’t get to see either one. I picked Colorado, just because I heard a lot of great things about the ski resorts. Once we started researching, we both fell in love with the pictures we saw of Breckenridge and both knew this was the place!

Our ceremony was at Sapphire Point on a bright and beautiful, snow covered day in 20 degree weather.  The overlook was a frozen Lake Dillon, with snowcapped mountains all around us.  We had an elopement-type ceremony, which made for a very intimate and powerful bonding. Luxe Mountain Weddings

A Colorado Mountaintop WeddingMy advice: Consider a wedding and/or honeymoon in Colorado.  It’s absolutely beautiful, the people are wonderful and I highly recommend the vendors we used.

Ceremony Site: Sapphire Point. An absolutely beautiful place in the winter with snowcapped mountains all around you as you overlook Lake Dillon.

Photographer: Kristina Lynn Photography. She is an amazing and talented woman!  We talked to her on the phone, told her what types of pictures we were wanting to capture and to our astonishment, she emailed us pictures before the wedding so we could see some different settings.  She nailed it with what we were wanting!  She took pictures at our lodge before the wedding, drove us to Sapphire Point and then after the ceremony she drove us to different locations and helped us get spectacular pictures.  She was extremely professional, personalized the photographs and the day just for us, and listened to our requests. She made sure we were her top priority and we definitely felt it.

Lodging: Mountain Thunder Lodge. Conveniently located to everything, and the setting was breathtaking with mountains all around the backside of the lodge.  We were able to bundle the car rental, ski lift tickets and the lodging all together for a discounted rate.  The heated underground parking garage was wonderful and a lifesaver in the winter.  There was a beautiful, cozy fireplace in our room, as well as a big and spacious balcony.  The employees were very courteous and helpful to us. I highly recommend this lodge.

Hair & Makeup: Hair & Weddings by Kylee She did an outstanding job with my hair and makeup!  I absolutely loved it!  I emailed her before the wedding asking her opinions on hair styles and hair accessories and she would respond by attaching pictures for her suggestions, which made it very easy for me to see what would look best.  She opened up early for me (8:30 AM) and made me felt like I had known her for many years.  She asked my thoughts on different things as we went along and made sure I was her main focus and was happy with the outcome.

Gown Designer: Belsoie by JasmineThis is an absolutely beautiful and elegant dress that flatters and makes a “WOW” statement without being extravagant.  It is actually a bridesmaid dress, but I love the fact how easily it turns into a simple bridal gown.  I didn’t want the traditional big poufy gown with beads, so this dress was a perfect choice for me.

Surrounded by Nature

Kiley & Andy | August 5th | Breckenridge, Colorado

At 10,010 feet, surrounded by the grandeur of the Ten Mile Range, Kiley & Andy recited their vows in an intimate ceremony on the deck of Sevens at Peak 7.  The beautiful backdrop and emotional moments were all lovingly captured by Jason + Gina Wedding Photographers.

From the bride:
Breckenridge is amazing. The town itself has a way of making you feel like you’re in another world and letting you escape.   Its so beautiful in both summer and winter and we both knew our families would have lots of activities to choose from. We like Breckenridge because it has an upscale feel but is still very relaxed and casual.  We knew this had to be the spot we tied the knot!

We decided to make this a weeklong vacation for both our families. We rented a 6 bedroom majestic mansion on the mountain and stuck both our families in the house for the week!  The big surprise was that everyone got along amazingly and really enjoyed the company.  Everyone got to know each other a little bit more and by the end of the week we were one big happy family!

Our first look was probably the most memorable moment. Leading up to this moment we’d been surrounded by family and little kids and lots of activity. For the whole previous week we didn’t have any alone time.  Our amazing photographers helped us find a cool, shady spot in the tall pines just off the slopes that was perfect. I snuck up on Andy over logs and brush and jumped on him! When he turned around and kissed me I was immediately overwhelmed with happiness and started crying. Although Jason and Gina were there taking shots we really felt totally alone and it was such a wonderful moment, our first one together, just us in quite a while.

The day of our wedding it was a perfect summer day in the Rockies; the sun was shining and it was mid 70’s with just a slight breeze.  The deck had the most beautiful view overlooking the town of Breckenridge with snow capped peaks in the distance and plenty of space to view the deep Colorado blue skies.  Being that the majority of our guests were from the East Coast this was quite a site for them to see.  It could not have been more spectacular.

The ceremony so much more than I expected. I found it interesting how I was surrounded by the most important people in my life and they all seem to disappear when I saw Andy waiting for me at the end of the isle.  Marrying him in that setting was truly the most memorable experience of my life.  I thought I had all my tears out during our first look but when we exchanged rings I couldn’t help it. I was so overcome with joy and thankfulness that God brought me to this moment with Andy. I felt and still feel unbelievably blessed.

Our first dance was to One Republic’s “Good Life” and again, the rest of the world disappeared to me as we danced around the room. I hadn’t ever seen such a huge and lasting smile on my husband’s face and it was wonderful. From that point on I didn’t stop dancing all night.
