A Stunning Autumn Mountain Wedding in Durango

Jenne Anne & Robert  /  October 1st  /  Durango, Colorado

From the bride:  It was important to us that the wedding reflected our adventurous laid back spirits. We tried to implement our favorite things and places in Durango as well as: the outdoors, our pups, local beer, and good food.  The day before the wedding we incorporated the hot springs, mountain biking, a SKA brew tour, and dinner at Steamworks. On Sunday, we had everyone join us for breakfast and bacon bloody mary’s. After, we rode crusier bikes along the river trail.

Our ceremony was located in one of our favorite meadows in the mountains. The fall colors were at their peak and most of the leaves fell from the aspens the next day. My husband crafted our incredible arbor and built it earlier that afternoon. We had a short intimate ceremony with our closest friends and family. Our pups (kids) were right beside us wearing floral collars so they didn’t feel left out. We chose to have our unity ceremony with two copper custom engraved mugs and a matte grey growler filled with our favorite craft beer.

Our reception was short and sweet. We ate and did our first dance, which was pretty magical, then we headed downtown. We were out on the town the whole evening in our wedding attire. I laughed and giggled the entire night!

An Elegant Ranch Wedding in Colorado

Corky and Mike met on a blind date set up by a friend. He’s a ski instructor at Vail Resorts, she’s a kindergarten teacher at Vail Christian Academy–and the rest is history. From the beginning, they knew they wanted to incorporate design elements that would reflect their life together in Vail.

An Elegant Ranch Wedding in Colorado

The guest book was a pair of antique skis that guests got to sign.

The tables were named after Corky and Mike’s favorite ski runs on Vail Mountain.

Corky had her great grandparents’ handmade wedding dolls placed on the back of their loveseat.

Let Love Grow

From the bride: We live in Los Angeles, but I’m from Colorado, and a mountain girl at heart. For our wedding, we wanted to be surrounded by the mountains and be able to smell the pine trees.  We also wanted our day to be classy and elegant with a color palette of blush, cream, and rose gold.

The Theme

Let Love Grow was a theme for the wedding. We want our love to always be growing, so we incorporated it in many ways throughout the wedding such as a tree planting ceremony within the ceremony and potted succulents for the escort cards.

The Dress

I wanted a dress that was different and I loved the idea of having a light blush dress.  I didn’t think I would like the style of my dress (I thought I’d go with a mermaid style), but the moment I tried it on, I knew it was the perfect combination of classic yet unique.

Advice

Get organized. Create a very detailed day-of schedule, stay on top of your guest list, finalize your seating chart and make escort cards.  These things will make all the difference.  You’ll be less stressed on the day and your guests will have a better time at your wedding.  Hire a day-of coordinator so you can pass all this along and just enjoy your big day.

A Fall Mountain Wedding with Black & Gold Accents

From the bride, Monica: Our wedding was more on the nontraditional side. My wedding dress was black, which is what I had always wanted. I love the fall and the mountains so I wanted our wedding to have both. We also wanted our family to experience the beautiful Rocky Mountains.

The Bouquets

My parents are antique dealers, so my mom found brooches at estate sales and my dad made them all into bouquets.

The Ring

My ring is a black diamond set in a halo of white diamonds, just perfect!

The Ceremony

We tied the knot in Estes Park surrounded by the Rocky Mountains and the fall colors.

Advice

Don’t let anyone influence your decisions with planning. Plan your day how you want it!

The Reception

The dancing was so much fun. It was important to us that our wedding had a laid back feel so that our guests could enjoy themselves and it felt like we really captured that.

A Fun Colorado Wedding at Evergreen Lake House

From the bride, Mahala: We met at a mutual friend’s Halloween party. Then we met again at Vail closing day and started dating shortly after. Zach proposed in Portugal. We hiked and rock climbed down to a private beach. We had a little picnic and Zach got down on one knee and popped the question!

My dad and I walked down the aisle to “Fool in Love” by Lord Huron because we love the song and it was April Fool’s Day.

We loved having our dog with us for photos.

The Wedding Team

Venue: Evergreen Lake House. Beautiful and convenient mountain location!
Photographer: Taylor Jones Photography. Amazing! The pictures turned out perfect.

A Boho Rocky Mountain Elopement

From the couple, Paul & Jamie: We decided to elope because we lived out of state (Minnesota) and this was our second marriage. We wanted a simple, yet personal wedding. We still wanted to have some traditional elements (dress, photographer, officiant), but more personal in that it was just the two of us saying our vows to each other in a beautiful location without a lot of extra opinions, fan fare and hoopla. It was a great decision!

The Dress

Jamie’s dress was made out of a vintage tablecloth from Dame & Maiden.

The Location

While in route to Steamboat last year, we were detoured due to an accident and ended up driving by Twin Lakes. We realized it was no accident. We consider ourselves “Twin Flames,” so getting married in “Twin Lakes” seemed perfect. When we came back in October for our actual wedding, we went out to find the perfect spot in Twin Lakes. We drove through Red Rooster campground because we wanted the magical backdrop of both the mountains and the twin lakes. We came upon the perfect “tree” in the “praying angel” overlook parking lot of Twin Lakes. We knew we found our spot.

Our Advice

Figure out what’s most important to you and then spend the money on that. Don’t feel like you need to listen to what everyone else says. This is your day…. one day. You’re celebrating the union between the two of you and you alone know what is important on your special day. We wanted to spend the money on pictures and transportation to a beautiful scenic spot that was personal to us with a story behind it.

A Natural & Romantic Photo Shoot in Colorado

From the photographer, Sarah Porter Photography: Set against the backdrop of Castlewood Canyon my vision for this shoot was minimalistic, natural, romantic and intimate.  The inspiration came from a song by Hillsong:

When the world caves in
Still my hope will cleanto Your promise
When my courage ends
Let my heart find strength
In Your presence
Let the ruins come to life
In the beauty of Your name
Rising up from the ashes
God forever You reign
